Advice on AMEX

Hi Guys!
Just did the eligibility checker on the American Express site and got a 9.5/10 chance of approval for all of the cards :T:T:T

Seeing that is quite something for me as I have never felt my credit history has ever been good even though I have no CCJs, Defauls to late payments, I just never felt as though I was worthy for credit.

I’ll list out my CCs below:-
AQUA Card Limit £7550
Capital One : Limit £2000
Capital One : Limit £1000
Barclaycard 0% : Limit £8000

I currently have about 7500 debt on the 0% and <£20 on the other cards.

Was just wondering about getting the Prefered Rewards Gold Card as they are offering 20,000 membership points if you spend £2000 in the first 3 months. I’ve got some new furniture for our new house I need to order which I could put through the card to get the points, but was wondering if I could convert the points to avios for my wife and I to have a short weekend break (during off peak) or would we have to be avios members for a certain period of time....

Any advice is welcome....

  • First thing is get a referral as you will get 22,000 points after the spend rather than 20,000!!
  • Also you can create a household avios account if you want to combine the points, otherwise the account would have to be in your wife's name. You can use avios immediately as soon as they are transferred over. Unlike Iberia where you're account must be open for 90 days

Now that you are in the business of "Avios" you would probably chase the points from all other avenues, for example, "BA Avios" and "Iberia Avios", and then "combine" them together. One drawback of household account you might want to be aware of is that you cannot combine points easily online.
