Using camera to show live pictures on a projector

I have a Canon SX50 which has a micro HDMI socket. I have tried using this to connect to the HDMI socket on my new Epson projector but can't get a picture to appear. I can use my Panasonic video camera in the same way and it does work very well. Is it possible to use my camera just as a camera to show a picture on my projector?

Should be able to do so. Have you got the manual?

Hopefully exactly the same camera set up to the HDMI input of your projector.0 -
Many thanks for the link, I'll give it a try.0

I found the settings described. I can see that this would show any video I had made on the camera but I still can't get it to show "live" pictures as I take them. Ideally I want to use my camera as a television camera to show live events but I have a feeling this might not be possible. I can still use my video camera for this but I thought my Canon might be more versatile (more zoom, etc).
Thanks again for your help.0
