BT Retention

Hello,

I have a BT line and have complained to BT last weekend. I got an initial response 7 days ago saying my complaint was being looked into - nothing since.

If I call to cancel my line rental, do they have a retentions team that will do anything worth talking about?

Thanks

Are you still in your minimum term? If so, and you cancel, you will have to pay any termination charges.

What is the complaint about ?, when you say cancel your line rental, what do you mean exactly ?, just cancelling your direct debit (for example) is not a good idea, moving to another provider would change who you pay line rental to, wouldn't necessarily generate a 'retentions' offer, and if your complaint is related to a 'service/performance' rather than a customer service issue, then that issue could remain after you move to another company

Line rental only requires 30 days notice .
From experience retention's are not involved with line rental cancellations .If you do cancel you will lose all services and possibly your phone number .Neither do retention's deal with complaints .
Complaints use your BT members community forum .

    2. Complaint about an engineer visit and how he was trying to get a private job as opposed to fixing the problem.

Thanks, would appreciate any other thoughts and suggestions.

1 Line rental does not have a minimum term its a monthly term .
Line rental covers line only not broadband and not phone calls .

2 Was that a BT problem or was he offering to fix a problem that you owned not BT ( internal wiring etc )

What is the problem ?? and what did engineer want to fix .
  • asked for a good deal on BT sport as I would be cancelling due to the price increase in January....they .just were not interested so I cancelled !!

The engineer who visited you was an Openreach employee , not 'BT' so changing provider from BT to someone else ( unless you go to Virgin Media) won't change the fact that OR are the people that visit, dumping BT for what an OR employee did is a bit odd...fact is, move to someone else , and need an engineering visit , it would be OR that visit, it could even be the same OR engineer that visits.

Depending on what the problem was, OR may not have been responsible for fixing it, for example , if there was a problem on an extension socket, OR are not responsible for fixing that as it's not part of OR's network.....
Although the OR engineer shouldn't be touting for work while on OR business, if he offered to fix your kit in his own time for a fee, it's not like he is refusing to fix it on OR's behalf because it's not OR's equipment, it's yours, and if you want it fixing you would have to fix it yourself or possibly pay someone to fix it for you.

If you still want to leave BT because of the 'behaviour' of this OR engineer, make sure you migrate service to a new provider and select number portability , don't cease service yourself, let whatever provider you chose organise that
