Change.org

Hi

I am trying to post a petition about a local planning issue on change.org and have clicked 'publish' but can't google it and it should be live.

Can anyone help? It is fairly urgent as my local authority seems to be pushing some planning through without notifying people apart from the bare minimum small ad in the paper and I need to let the town know so that they can comment on this - no proper consultation!

Change.org does state that 5 people need to sign it before it is visible but how can they sign it if not visible?

Afraid I can’t help on the technology. It’s fine to word the petition in which a way that you notify people what,a happening bit so be aware that any petition which is effectively an objection to any kind of planning application will only be treated by the planning Committee as one objection, no matter how many thousands of people have signed it.
It you’re encouraging people to object, individuals must write in separate individual letters (and not fifty letters all identically copied with the same wording from a single template)

You'd do better posting it on Facebook and getting local people to share than trying to achieve anything through Change.org for a local issue.

  • You are assuming that all the relevant people use Facebook. At least those who are connected to the internet (again not everyone) would be able to access a website.

I'm quite sure that a lot of the locals are using Facebook and you'd be surprised at how many use the "Stuff for Sale or Free in XXX" pages for your town. The number subscribed to the one for my town is roughly equivalent to 1/3 of the population so a post in there would definitely help spread the word about such an issue around the town.

I agree ... most towns will have a Facebook page, so that's the best place to get the word out.
