Hope I’m posting in correct place. I’d like to buy my sister a Car Dash Cam for Christmas,
Due to her job she does a lot of driving & tends to use car cigarette lighter for her sat nav in remote locations in the S.W. Is it possible to buy an adaptor so both sat nav & dash cam can be used at same time if needed. I have no idea about the things because I don’t drive:( Many thanks for any advice.

The Dash Cam will probably be a usb connection. If the sat nav is of the old type that needs the whole cigarette lighter power socket, you'll need an adapter that serves up both.
Something like This.....http://www.halfords.com/technology/mobile-phone-accessories/multisockets/halfords-multi-socket-2x12v-usb-battery-analyser

Take note of the power needed before purchase. Halford's one power products up to 8 Amperes, so a good starting point.
Then you can think about design. e.g where it can fit or sit. There are some adapters designed to sit in a cup-holder. Also dependent of the location of her current cigarette lighter power socket.0 -
You also find that the cheap ones can also cause interference to your radio0

A while back a local car shop was closing down, i picked up a cheap 3 way extension for the lighter socket.
The packaging was worth more than the splitter, inside the metal was rusty, the earth wire was a single strand of solid copper wire, probably good enough for an amp or so. Not the 10 amps that someone could pull from it with a tyre pump etc.
Get a branded one and pay sensible money, avoid the cheaper ones.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
If you're really feeling the seasonal love, get it installed/fitted for her and the cables are hidden & powered where you don't see so the satnav keeps on running.
May cost more than a "doubler" but gives you a great deal more peace of mind.
(Mind I've a cheap beast I use for nav & phone charging I got from a cheapy shop - it does all I ask of it but I treat it with caution as I now it was cheap!)0 -
Get a hard wired dash cam (i.e. permanent install). You can buy as a gift with installation at Halfords or RAC do installation at your home address.
Parking mode is a valuable feature, which is only available with a permanently live feed to the camera. My dash cam paid for itself when I used it to identify a hit and run driver who damaged my car whilst it was parked."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi
