Windows 10 laptop doesn't wake from sleep.

My folks have a Dell Inspiron (I can't recall the model no.) running Win 10. Following a recent update it no longer wakes up when opening the lid as it always used to do. I've followed the varying instructions I came across via google but nothing seems to get it to wake up again from sleep mode. Any ideas?
It only seems to have happened over the past week or 2 and before the Fall Creators update, which it now has.

Has it the correct Dell drivers? Windows update often installs incorrect drivers, I’ve recently come across an Acer that lost the WiFi driver (3 or 4 month old, came with Win 10) and a Medion that lost its keyboard driver (came with Win 8, user upgraded to Win 10, worked fine until 2 weeks ago).
Laptops seem particularly prone to driver issues with Windows, many that originally came with Win 7 or 8 may not be supported by the manufacturers for user updates to Win 10 (Acer and Asus Support specifically mention this).
Make sure you have a good backup before upgrading, especially to the Creators Update.0 -
This has generally been an issue since Vista...often the only way around it is a complete wipe & reinstall. The file created with the state of the machine when told to sleep will somehow get corrupted and will not allow a restart, and even with a repair disk it very rarely manages to get the machine restarted..........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple
