Currys vent

Probably dodged a bullet not buying from Currys today.
I have been looking for a new laptop and wanted one with a dvd drive. So I checked the Curry's website and there was a decent Lenovo 14" laptop which listed a dvd drive. I ordered online, although didn't pay thankfully, and drive 20 miles to collect.
Get to Currys and expect to just pick it up but one of the sales people insists that I see it first. Well, I'm glad that he did as there was no dvd drive! Thinking I made a mistake, I said that I thought this came with a drive and he laughed in my face. "You'll never see a dvd drive in a 14" laptop", he says.
Well, I then checked the website and indeed it lists a dvd drive. In addition, there is a cut out panel where the dvd drive should be, and when I checked the laptop in store, the demonstration pictures shows a dvd drive and the bloody thing has DVD software installed!
Having been made to feel like an idiot for even suggesting that I thought it would have a drive, I promptly left. Still on the hunt...!

Well I can clearly see an optical drive in the picture.
Can only assume that (at a random guess) the pic is possibly of a different model ? Given the rate at which new models can seemingly come out it could be an honest mistake.
Having said that it does list the following currently in the specifications tab:MEDIA
Optical disc drive DVD/RW
Memory card reader 4-in-1 memory card reader0 -
Did you show them the pic and info on the website. They may have come up with an alternative after your wasted drive0
-
They're using the same picture for the cheap one and the more expensive ones that do have a DVD drive.
On a positive, you've dodged a bullet. It's a poor spec laptop and Currys customer service is awful. Use John Lewis or Amazon instead.0 -
I showed him the specs and the photos on my phone and he just said it was an error and he would pass it on. Didn't inspire me with confidence. I don't need a good spec laptop, just one with a DVD drive. This was the cheapest one.
Ended up going to Argos! BTW I notice that Argos had a laptop which clearly showed a DVD drive in the photo but on reading the Q and As it is confirmed that it does not have a drive!
DVDs are still important to some people!0 -
On the Lenovo website it mentions two solar model numbers together so I assume one must have a DVD Drive and the other one doesn't although that isn't very clear on there either.

Have you considered buying a separate USB DVD re/writer?
We picked one up for circa £40 and can use on any laptop for the rare instances that we need one; and didn't need to buy a new laptop.Toyota - 'Always a better way', avoid buying Toyota.0 -

That's exactly what I did a couple of years ago when I purchased a netbook, I was aware it did not have an optical drive., said netbook was the cheapest I could get as it was only going to be used for car diagnostics anyway but I needed a portable optical drive for the occasional use, plus its quite handy to have a portable one anyway.

Thanks all. Yes I did consider a portable drive however I need the drive for regular use and did not want the additional hassle of an extra bit of kit to drag around. For occasional use, a portable drive would have been the answer.0

Oh, you did indeed dodge a bullet.....When we reserved a laptop at Curry’s, they refused to sell it to us without them “setting it up” (activating Windows and installing overpriced, crappy antivirus software) and charging us £50 for the privilege!
We just laughed at them and bought it somewhere else."I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0
