Tuxedo top-up Credit Card

The Tuxedo Top-up Credit Card is supplied by The Sun Newspaper, website thesunprepaid.co.uk Can anyone tell me more about this card. Is it safe? Is it a good idea or should I steer clear? I am not able to have a credit card due to being made bankrupt nearly three years ago and although I do prefer to use cash, it is getting more and more difficult now days, as I discovered when I wanted to book a hire car.

• Is there a set up fee? Does it cost anything extra to top up?
What are the charges for usage?

These are the 3 key questions IMO.

As long as you are happy to pay for using your own money then they are ok.

A pre-paid credit card will not resolve your problems in booking a hire car. All companies to my knowledge require a full credit card, or they will take a substantial deposit against damages etc.

inmypocketnottheirs,

I dont think you could rent a car will a pre pay card. They use the limit on a credit card for a damages. Would be okay for online purchases though, try to get a Visa one though as Maestro is not always accepted.
• This might help you decide:

http://www.tuxedocard.tv/ Saw the advert this morning (funnily enough it was the ad break before "Wise Man Sir Martin" was on LK Today!).

I like the idea and think I'll be going for one after I've read every word on their website.

looks good shame about the £9.95 you have to pay for it, then you can earn a tenner if you recommend it to someone

you can get cashback at quidco

£10 for the tuxedo card
£5 for the sun card

UK Fees for Tuxedo are 2.95% for trans fees, 1.5% for atm cash

There is an option for a monthly fee of £4.99 to save on some charges I think

I have a Tuxedo prepaid credit card (applied after seeing it on tv), Cost me £9.95 to have a card and £4.99 monthly. To be honest, I wouldn't bother with this. I have put money onto the card and when I went to use it online last week to buy something, it was refused even though the online balance/and human at other end of phone says there is money there. I keep getting texts and email alerts telling me my card is showing a zero balance!!!!,.
The other thing is the call centre is in India so making yourself understood and understanding them is a nightmare, they are also reading from a script (I am sure of it from the answers they give). I asked a complicated question today and there was silence for a while obviously they were thinking what to say as it wasnt on the script!!!.
They asked me to email info to them and have to send to customercare@thesunprepaid which seemed odd so queried this and got no response. I now found out the sun only charged £5.00 for the same card... I have asked for a refund of all monies paid in as I am not happy with the card and they are now trying to charge me £10 cancellation when I cannot use the card as it says there's no money there.

DO NOT TOUCH TUXEDO.......
• i just got mine, which was featured on the Sun website- just waiting for 1st topup to go on (can pay in via Barclays, post office, or paypoint).

as the newspaper is linking itself (no doubt for some referral commish!), i hope they have checked it out!

full secure website etc.. though the 'helpline' sounds like its based back end of timbuktoo.. enail queries soon replied to / sorted.

I have added referral code on the other board. their telephone customer service (overseas) is hard going (t h e y t a l k f r o m a s c r i p t...), but email queries answered / sorted fairly quickly.
