Economy 10 - Please help!

I'm at my whits end trying to swap energy suppliers, I recently attempted to swap to be told I have an Economy 10 meter.
Apparently Economy 10 price plans are only supported by 6 suppliers, and only 4 of them supply to Manchester.
They are charging DOUBLE what I'm currently paying (6p night and 11p day) as I'm somehow on an Economy 7 plan but since trying to switch its been flagged that I'm actually Economy 10.
Cheapest price I've found is SSE at 13p night and 20p day (standing - 22p per day)
My current electric bill is £130, which is already very expensive.
Any advice I'm struggling with bills as it is and couldn't afford to be paying double my current monthly bill.

Who are you currently with ? Do you have electric heating ? Why are you trying to swap if paying those rates ? There are a few suppliers that will supply E10 and a few more, like your current one, that will use an E10 meter on E7 rates. Any major supplier will be able to take you on a single rate tariff but if you have electric heating that will be expensive, you would need to speak to their specialist team to switch. Look here for some help https://economy10.com/list-of-suppliers/0

I'm currently with Extra Energy on Fresh Fixed Price Oct 2017 v1 (which has since finished) this is an Economy 7 price plan, I'm taking over the bills from another tenant who has moved out I don't know how they managed to swindle the company into putting them onto an Economy 7 plan as when I tried with SSE and eOn I was flagged up straight away as having an economy 10 meter.
Yes the entire apartment is Electric only including water and heating. I'm already paying £130 a month and we never turn the heating on because it's too expensive.
Thats the list I've used, out of the 6 suppliers who fully support E10 only 4 will supply to my area and the cheapest is as above (which is double what I currently pay). I tried with British Gas and Ovo but after spending 30 minutes on the phone with each being passed pillar to post because they didn't know who I needed to speak with regarding Economy 10 price plans I have had enough.
Why is it so difficult to swap energy suppliers and find a reasonable price? I can't afford to be paying £260 a month for my electric on a 2 bed apartment!0 -
How are you actually heating the property ? How many kWh are you using daily ? You need to stop talking £ and get a grip on your actual kWh usage. read meters daily if necessary. Have you been submitting readings to the supplier or are they using estimates ?0

What do you mean heat the property? We don't, we have 1 50cm wide electric radiator in each room and I've disabled them all from the switchboard so none of them can be turned on. We've had no heating on in the property since Jan 2017.
We don't have access to our meter, we have to submit a request to the building management company 5 days before we want it reading then wait a 2-3 days for them to email us the reading.
We have tried submitting readings over the phone and via Extra Energies website, they accept them initially then we get an automated response a few days later stating they can't accept our reading as its lower than the previous reading (?) - this has previously all been handled by the previous tenant for room1 in the apartment this is why I'm trying to take ownership of it as I can't even access the account for Extra Energy.
I do have a list of previous meter readings though.
5th July
Rate 1 Reading 30382
Rate 2 Reading 30807
4th August
Rate 1 Reading 30652
Rate 2 Reading 31146
5th September 2017
Rate 1 Reading 30942
Rate 2 Reading 31473
5th October 2017
Rate 1 Reading 31188
Rate 2 Reading 31744
3rd November
Rate 1 Reading 31436
Rate 2 Reading 320360 -
What readings are being used for billing ? Why can you not access the EE website, all it needs is the e-mail and password and then you can change the e-mail. You need to get this account sorted out with EE as the first step. The next step is to check that the meter readings being supplied are for the meter that is actually connected to your property, that the serial numbers on the meter actually match those on the bills and that the 2 readings correspond with the correct rates. You need to be firm with the management company about requiring access to the meter. What type of lock is on the cupboard, often a standard meter key or fireman's key both of which are easily available to buy.1

Like I said, we have no access to the meter. The meter number shown on the Extra Energy bills matches that shown on the reading statement though so I assume it is correct.
I don't have any access to the Extra Energy account, I'm not the account holder. I contacted them by phone but they won't give me access as I'm not the account holder. The only thing I can do is change suppliers / start a new deal as though I've just moved into the property. (which is what I'm trying to do)
This brings me full circle to struggling to find a supplier for E10, those that will supply are charging double what I'm currently paying.0 -

Hello, and welcome to MSE :hello:
Thank you for your post, once again reinforcing my Golden Rule with regards to attempting to switch with this type of metering. i.e. Don't do it; it'll end in tears
Good luck!0 -

I have little choice, my current supplier doesn't support E10 and they have no idea why I've been on an E7 tariff.
Is there any way to confirm what type of meter I'm on?
*Edit: also noting the bills for my property are currently in no one's name, I'm the only one here till the new tenant moves into the other bedroom. I can't just bury my head and pretend someone else is going to sort my bills out.0 -
I've got Extra Energy stating im on Economy 7 in the national database
I've got eon and SSE stating im on Economy 10 in the national database0 -
