Halifax Mortgage Process

Options
Hi. Can anyone with experience with getting a mortgage with Halifax (or in the process of) give me an idea of times ie: Full application to valuation, to mortgage accepted? Do they send text or email updates? I've applied through a broker, I'm a FTB.

Had everything approved with Nationwide, until Countrywide undervalued property (ridiculous figure) so having to start process all over again.

Any help/advice with Halifax is appreciated :)

  • We went with Halifax. I was very impressed with them. I’d say it took a couple of weeks from application to offer. Maybe three weeks. Didn’t get any specific updates from them but our broker followed up. We had a slightly complicated case but didn’t cause any problems. We were FTB with HTB.
  • Me and my partner are literally at the start of the process with Halifax. We’ve had our Mortgage Promise and soft searches etc and we have an appointment Monday to start our application and pay our valuation fee. I’m hoping it all goes smoothly as I’m a little apprehensive!

Update - Mortgage in Principle was given on Friday. Full application started Friday evening. Paid the £200 for the valuation fee today which will enable broker to upload all my supporting documents. Would love to know how long other people waiting for the valuation to take place with Halifax?!

When the surveyor is instructed, the surveyor has to use the contact details you have provided, to contact whoever is in control of access.

The inspection date will therefore depend on when the surveyor is able to visit.

It can be anything from same day, to perhaps three weeks later. Longer is usually the norm for more in-depth reports, rather than the usual mortgage report & valuation only.

  • We did full application on Sat 11th, and paid for valuation then so I think we are pretty much on the same track, I'm an eternal pessimist so I'm already getting nervous, just desperate for everything to work out as we desperately want to start a family! Hope everything goes well for you :)

Spoke to my Mortgage Advisor this evening. Everythings approved subject to Valuation. Impressed with the speed of it so far. Mortgage Advisor sounded more nervous than me though. As Nationwide undervalued, thanks to Countrywide ridiculous valuation technique. Which is why we've ended up going with Halifax, but so far so good.

Did you go through a broker? Ours has already gone through affordability and accepted pending valuation. Hope yours is quick too :)
  • We’ve submitted our full application with Halifax today. Paid for the valuation (we decided to go with the 2nd tier) so now just to wait!

Hiya, we didn't and in a way I wish we did as I could ring them and ask lots of questions haha! The adviser in branch did say the way their scoring system works when the full application goes in determines which documents are needed and we only needed the bare minimum so i'm hoping that is a good sign? Valuation has definitely been paid for but no date as of yet, I think we will know quite soon as we are the contact for the valuation with living here already, fingers crossed :)

That does sound like a good sign. I've become an expert at analysing everything during this process 🤣😩 Good for people to know that about Halifax scoring system! Hoping that the valuation gets booked in quickly!!
