Painting the inside of W/Burning stove recess

Can I paint the inside of a Wood burning stove recess with plain emulsion
It's is boarded out with cement board at the moment but due to a ;ate arriving stove, I can paint it before it's installed.

Yes you can, although how close will your stove sit?
Ours is too close really & it cracks the paint but only on the back side where it's very close. It doesn't affect the sides as there's plenty of distance.0 -
Mine is painted with emulsion its just cement render probably treated in some way for heat. No damage accept one thin crack since it was done 7 years ago just had one refresh coat a few years back.
22cm distance from stove to wall either side and rear 8 cm stove is sat on thick slate0 -
Yes, emulsion is the best to use. Don't use anything oil based as it will give off a terrible smell each time the stove is litI got ham but i'm not a hamster.....0
