I knew I paid PPI on a series of loans and a 'Platinum' packaged account with Barclays from 1998-2010 but towards the end, I got into trouble and entered into a DMP. After a while that failed also. The debts were sold on to a debt recovery company and eventually, after getting nowhere with me, they wrote to me saying that they had decided to reduce the balance on both accounts to zero and close them.
With all that in mind, I really thought my chances of claiming back PPI was next to nothing. However, after reading through the forums and understanding other peoples stories and advice, I thought I would give it a try.
In early October I went through the Barclays website to request a PPI check. They responded within a few days, listing 3 loans (refinancing each other) The Platinum account, and also 2 credit cards that all had PPI. Again, through their website, I printed off and filled out the forms to complain that I was mis-sold (I distinctly remember being told that I couldn't have the loans without PPI) Sent them all off and waited...
I had various text messages telling me that my complaints had been recieved etc. That was it, no phone calls, no arguements.
Within 7 days of sending those forms, I recieved my first 'final response'. 2 days later the 2nd one came in. Both containing refund cheques:
Barclayloans (x3) £16850.00
Barclays Platinum Account £4650.00
As you can imagine, I am totally over the moon. I am now debt free, have been able to put some into savings and my family will be having a great Christmas!:T:beer::j
I am yet to hear about the credit cards, but using Barclaycard 'trackit' I'm told that a response is on it's way. Fingers crossed for that one too, I'll update this thread when I get it.
A massive thank you to everybody that has shared their experiences and to those that have given advice. Without all that, I wouldn't have dared to take on Barclays! Hopefully my story will prompt someone else to do the same... and not use rip off claims management companies, it's so easy to do it yourself!

Hello Pinky555, I am so happy to have seen your story for PPI with Barclays! I had a loan myself with them back in 2002 but unfortunately I don't have the paperwork anymore and don't remember exactly the address I was living at when the agreement was made but I pretty much remember that I was forced to take on ppi otherwise would not have had the loan! So right we are in September 2018 and I am determined to get my PPI back from them and Credit cards too but before I go on their website and ask them a PPI Check can you give me some steps advice on how you did it so that I can give my best shot at getting what is owed to me? Many thanks in advance and so happy you are debt free now!0

Use the MSE guide or the resolver website if you want your hand holding through the process - follow the link from MSE as claims firms have been known to try and cheat the search engines and get their site to the top if you just search for itSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Thanks tons for suggestions on it! Quick question for you...Can I claim back in the same letter my PPI on Loans and overdraft? Or do I need to do different letters for each? Thanks in advance :j0

Your main issue is going to be that you have no documentation and do not even know where you lived at the time. Expect the Bank to want to know your address at the very least if they are going to find your account.0
