Car bump

Options
I was reversing out of car park space and noticed someone else doing the same across from me. I stopped and he didn't, I beeped my horn but he didn't notice and hit my car. It was raining badly and we checked and couldn't see any damage so I left without taking his details. I have now noticed a scratch on my bumper. I have his registration plate but don't know if I can do anything with it as it happened 6 days ago now. Is there anything I can do or do I have to pay to fix the damage? Really worried to tell my husband as he was mad when I didn't take the guys details, I realise I should of but as I thought there was no damage we didn't to. I have learned my lesson on that so please don't rub it in. Thanks

With the reg you can find out who the insurer is by going to askmid. (Foc if you use a smart phone)

Then contact the insurer and see if they will accept liability.

The trick is to avoid accidents in the 1st place,
    1) reverse into supermarket car parking spaces, you can still access the boot/tailgate.
    2) When you realised the other driver was also reversing, you could have gone back into your parking space.

Two cars reversing is going to be difficult to apportion single liability.

You can obtain the details of the registered keeper of the car from the DVLA, see https://www.gov.uk/request-information-from-dvla

It's just a scratch, forget it, cars get scratched all the time especially in carparks.

(or is the "scratch" actually a major gouge, with the remaining bits of the shattered bumper hanging off the twisted body fixings?)

The other driver will swear blind there was no damage, as you agreed at the time, (even if he admits to the accident) , then there will be no end of to-ing and fro-ing with insurance.

    Or do you have witnesses?
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

Even if it's unequivocal that this damage was from this incident (which it certainly isn't, a week later), insurance would go 50/50 - you were both reversing, both of you will swear it was the other's fault. And for what? A £100 smart repair?
