Wireless Modem security help

i have just received a wireless router from Talk Talk model - EchoLife 520s.

I have this connected to my main desktop pc but i need to add some security so only my laptop works with it and not others outside my house......

Talk Talk want £25 just to help me with.....but how can i change the modem settings so i can add teh security...

    nope....i was quite disappointed it was basically just modem and power supply in a box...probably why it was £20! if i knew i would have paid more to get a Belkin or net gear.......

    Try to follow the manual setup instructions for the wireless router as given on the Talk Talk website . There should be a wireless security section in the router configuration where you can choose an encryption method (WPA) and password. Do this from the wired PC.

    look for wpa-psk\tkip under basic\wireless lan

    enter a long password, and save it (submit).

    then tell your pc the same password to connect.

    it seems to be working but its so bl**dy slow even from my main desktop pc...anyone else found this problem with a talk talk wireless modem?

    my net works now but for some reason it wont allow me into messenger and hotmail for past 2 days....tried on both my laptop and desktop. on the messenger troubleshoot it says my hosts file is not right with error code 80048820.
    i checked it the hosts file whic contains:
    127.0.0.1 localhost
    127.0.0.1 localhost

    done that with the setting sbut still get the same error code and 80048439....all i have done is changed my modem!
