Trying to find out who owns a house - house not registered on land register.

Trying to find out who owns a house - house not registered on Land Registry. - ''Sorry, we do not have a record of any titles for this property. This does not necessarily mean that the property is unregistered.'' I have a funny feeling that the property might be owned by an estate - there are a few around here, so not sure exactly which one? Any idea what my next action should be?? I have heard rumours that gypsies live in it?! To describe it, it is rural, half/very run down, yet has solar panels!! .. bizarre!

It depends why you want to know.

I have heard rumours that gypsies live in it?!

Knock on the door and find out?
  • Well, it's not desperate that I need to know, so I don't want to go upsetting anyone. I would just like to discreetly find out.

    then discretely ask:
    - the occupants
    - the neighbours
    - the villagers
    - tom, !!!! or harry

if it ain't registered then the owner is the person in possession and/or the person with the paper deeds

Not really bizarre. With interest rates where they've been, it might make excellent sense for a landlord to install solar panels and collect a fat subsidy, paid-for by the likes of you and me!
