Briefly resurrecting this diary to say that as of 2019 I am finally debt free. The decision to sell my car was definitely the correct one, and it was this plus some much needed overtime in Dedember that finally saved me.
Do I have much spare cash? No.
Am I still constantly worried about my finances? Yes.
But it feels so good to know that I don't owe money to anyone any more.
My measly monthly salary is now allocated to within an inch of it's life, and gets siphoned off into other accounts as soon as I'm paid, so I know that all I can spend on 'fun' stuff, is what's left in my current account. I've also started saving on a monthly basis for all of the one-off expenses that used to take me by surprise.Sealed pot challenge 11: number 5940 -

Hello Everyone!
I thought I bring this diary back to life as I'm at a point where I need to sort out my finances again...
A few life changes for me: last winter I started a new job. I absolutely hate it and it's making me utterly miserable, but it is better paid and will hopefully lead onto something else soon.
In the middle of the pandemic, my bf and I bought our dream house, and we've never been happier. However, we have had to spend a lot of money so far on renovations, and this is set to continue into the next decade!! We are not in a rush with it, as it is quite liveable (and still lovely), but if we are ever going to save up for future stuff we really need to tighten our belts.
Currently I am about £400 into my overdraft as a result of an unexpected expense for my horse plus too many 'treats' from the local shop on my lunch break. I also owe my boyfriend £500 for half of our new sofa which was an absolute essential purchase as we didn't have one!
The only good thing about Covid is that I've not had to spend on weekends away and meals out etc. Hoping to continue this well after life gets back to normal.
So, first aim is to claw myself back into the positive in my current account, and then aim to earn some more money to pay my half of sofa. Baby steps!

Well that weekend was a write off. Completely felled by a horrible tummy bug. Didn't have the energy to stand up, let alone do anything else. On the good side, at least I didn't spend any money!Sealed pot challenge 11: number 5940
