Help! Problem with laptop

I was wondering if anyone could steer me in the right direction.

I recently bought a laptop about 3 weeks ago.

In the last week the internet kept going down on the computer, webpages would not load or say could not reach this page, internet was fine and worked on all other devices.

I googled the model of laptop and apparently there has been lots of isuues reported with the wifi.

I took it to the retailer who tested and they said it was fine after running diagnostic tests. Clearly I wouldn't be returning it if it was fine! They were going to run further checks.

If they come back and say it is fine what rights do I have and what can I do?

I don't want a refund I want to replace it with a different model that is slightly more expensive and pay the extra .

  • Also a member of staff advised I should stil be able to exchange it, as it was under 30 days old, however the manager said this was not the case if it was not "faulty"

If they come back and say it is fine then you may have to prove that the goods don't conform to contract. I'm not saying you need to prove the lack of conformity is inherent, just that its up to the party alleging breach of contract to evidence that breach.

Perhaps by taking a video when it loses signal. If you can show it happens on various networks that might help also as it helps show its not a problem with the router/modem.

I've had laptops in the past where, due to the layout of the inbuilt wifi antennas, wifi could be sketchy unless you were in decent area for the signal. A top of the range Dell XPS 15 I got some years back was terrible for that so I returned it.
