If it's signed for, do you stick a signed for label on but it goes in the sack with the others? (whereas I have to get mine processed at the PO counter?) Also how does the online manager work?

As I use a mail centre it's slightly different for me , all my normal mail goes into bags and straight into the sorting cages. My international goes into its own sack and has to be handed over the counter. My signed for and special are handed in , but they are not currently scanned and tend to take a while to update. When and if my Crown PO will accept business mail then they will take signed for and special delivery mail and will also scan it on acceptance.

My mail centre can't take signed for or tracked international mail and I have to hope that the Crown PO are in a good mood and will take it.

I'm not sure what online manager is.

  • I assumed OBA users use Dispatch Manager Online, but I don't really have a clue?

Sorry but neither do I. That's the Ng I've found with my business account, on the rare occasions I talk to anyone they all tell me something different.

I do know that my scheme at the time was unusual and a lot of advisors told me it was impossible to do what I'm doing.

Even my mail centre have different ideas. I print out two copies of the manifest and wait in line to get one stamped, yet senior bods there tell me I don't need to do that - I just need to drop my mail and hand over any signed for or international and don't need anything receipted, just a copy of my manifest attached to one bag. Looking at other businesss users, and there are a lot at the mail centre, none of them ever seem to wait in the queue for a receipt, they all just drop everything and go. Even their international is put straight into the 1st class cage.

  • I started off printing two manifests, putting one on a bag and getting the other signed. Then the guy behind the counter said they can't scan it in and have no idea what to do with the paperwork, so now I just attach a copy of the manifest to one of the sacks

I figure I don't need a copy anyway as all the info is on my Click & Drop account

first class and International go in one sack, and second class in another. Any signed for have the big orange label on and go in a separate sack.

  • What exactly is "Click & Drop account"? It's not the click and drop the public use to drop stuff at the post office is it? So you need a business account and a click and drop account?

  • I have a Click & Drop account which interfaces with my OBA

The Click and Drop account links with eBay and Amazon and pulls all my sales across. Unlike OBA you don't weigh everything and then take an average, each item needs to be input separately, but once you have sold something C & D stores the weight

You need a zebra printer which I got at a special price of about £180 but Royal Mail provide all the labels

Once everything is weighed, you create a manifest, print it out and attach it to one of your sacks. Then just drop off at the Post Office or sorting office

Under the reports section of C & D it lists every item and puts a tracking number next to all UK parcels and large letters.

  • Thank you for the useful info. Can you over-ride the weights that the C&D account picks up? It's just that we use efficient packaging so that when a customer orders multiple items, we either send individually large letters or combine into a small parcel which ever is the best option (plus other combinations).

  • Yes, you can override the weights. I haven't figured out how to combine orders from one customer, so just raise one label and delete the rest

I had an instance last week where a customer didn't receive an item despite being sent first class, so I was able to take a screen shot of the C & D order to prove it had been sent by that method.

All helpful info, thank you all for sharing your knowledge. :T
Think I'm going to look into this now as 90% of my items go LL and delivery confirmation and the slightly lower price makes it a viable option to buying stamps!
