In prasie of Vodafone

This may shock people.. but I just had a good experience after an unexpected bill-shock with Vodafone.

My wife had £75 extra on her phone bill this month - quite a shock, although we'd been abroad and we thought it was an issue with the (free) roaming.

Phoned them up - apparently we'd bought a phone! After a lot of digging, it was a charge for a handset upgrade from a year ago, that they never added to the account at the time (and we thought it was all paid for).

After a few attempts to fob us off, they eventually accepted that whilst it was a legitimate charge, it wasn't reasonable to charge this a year after the event, especially as we were a decent customer.

50 minutes on the blower to sort out, but we negotiated it down to £70 and only paid for the handset delivery.

So - thanks Vodafone.. your managers know how to properly deal with a situation and resolve it.

If you're apparently not noticing missing charges on your statements then you need to start checking more carefully. Just think about how many charges that you are unaware of could be going out.

TBH, my own mobile bill is hardly ever more than the contract amount, so i don't check it much, other than to see my outstanding allowance.. same goes with my wife really. She only checked it because we'd been away on a cruise ship - and it's really easy to connect to their network accidentally and rack up a huge bill.

So in general there isn't actually much need for us to check our phone bills since we've got unlimited minutes/texts and reasonable data allowances.

I'd be checking the next phone bill to ensure they do actually give you the credit they've promised you, as they're known for promising things during phone calls that never materialise on your bills (first hand experience here)

Don't worry, that was already on our mind!
