Broken kettle (boiled dry) - how to fix?

I broke the kettle at home yesterday,
I boiled it dry by mistake (only wanted hot water not boiling and put it back on the base and it boiled empty) and now it doesnt work.
Is there any way of fixing it? I have no idea what bit to look at first.
I believe the base unit is working but the actual kettle/heating element isn't.
Thanks!

In the old days a kettle element had a spring-loaded pin which was held by solder. If the element overheated, the solder melted and released the pin which pushed out the plug! Sometimes the pin could be pushed back in but usually a new element was required.
With a modern kettle the answer is to recycle it and buy a new one.0 -
All kettles have a thermal cut out just for such an occasion. I have done the same thing many times over the years and everytime the kettle was fine and worked a day or so later, they reset. However I suppose it does shorten the life of themNudge nudge, Wink wink, Say No More!0

Make sure there is no reset hiding away somewhere.
I was going to say get a new element, but to be honest it would be better to get a new kettle.
Have you checked the fuse?0 -
Agree with the above, check for reset or fuse. Otherwise replacing/repairing element (especially depending on model of kettle) won't be economical."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Like others have said, unless its a family heir loom, best to think about a replacement.0 -

Tried it again but it didn't work, no reset button so I gave in and bought another one from Argos - luckily we had some vouchers from Envirophone so it was technically free.
Bit of a shame though cos it matched the toaster!:o0 -
