We moved house in Mar '07, shortly afterwards, had fence panels installed - eight and a half of them.
I remember at the time it was suggested to have 'feather-edge' but being a 'tight-so-and-so' stuck to the panels.
It didn't take that long before ever high wind storm, would blow down a panel, and later, a post as well.
Storm Imogen 2016 was the final straw, when three panels and two posts came adrift!
So, when it came to re-fencing, had the whole run re-done as per feather-edge. Glad I did too.
High winds have come and gone, but it's held firm.

So, price as well, for a feather-edge option, and how much to replace a damaged (in the future) panel.

I have seen the above company do some good work, most companies keep their full prices a secret until you get a quote.

I agree - it's quite windy where round I live so I'd be going with feather edging type fence too Actually, I don't think I know what the fence type is called - it's just really simple - and looks like this:

    What's this called?

Agree though - full panels are out of the equation. Thanks!

Thanks v much. Unfortunately a little bit out of my area.

Garden fences seem to be one of the hardest things to get a feel for price-wise. As with the helpful responses above it doesn't even feel like there's a 'this will cost you approx £50-100 per panel'. But thousands of homes must have fences built every year!! :)

I think that link is more like 'Palisade'. Try this - http://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects/closeboard.htm

Thanks v much. Yes - Palisade then is the style of fence I want - just something very simple to install between garden paths between houses. From the picture Closeboard and even feather edge might blow down!!!

Is Palisade fencing cheaper to install than closeboard/feather edge?

    TY,

Im up north, and had a fence fitted last month, worked out at £10 per foot.
It was just standard fence posts and 6ft boards.

Don't go out hoping for £10 a foot! You have a fence to remove, there may be access problems, there will be concrete footings for the old fence to contend with, and we've no idea what sort of fence that poster above got for that price.

Let us know what quotes you get in the end. It's a busy busy time of year for fencers and landscapers.
  • The circa £100 per panel fits within my experience in SE London. Concrete gravel n posts with slot in panels.

I think there are volume savings per meter.

I say look at local fences with labels showing installer.
