Sun Life Of Canada claim they never sold PPI

I used the most excellent Resolver.co.uk to send off an initial email to Sun Life. I had a mortgage with them for about 9 years from 1991.

They came back with:

I can confirm that Sun Life Financial of Canada has never sold PPI either as a standalone product or in connection with any type of plans we sold.

Does anyone know if this is true, or I they just trying it on?

Many thanks

If you have documentary evidence that contradicts the response, you should of course challenge them. Otherwise...

They are right. They are a life assurance company. Not a general insurance company.

They are not the ones trying it on.

  • We got this response some time ago and gave up. I’m inclined to pursue again though. My endowment mortgage was with Lincoln Financial and it clearly states; “income protection’ with a monthly amount. Lincoln was taken over by Sun Life. I’ve more time now to pursue. However no one else is following up in this thread so maybe fruitless?

1 - your complaint was rejected (you dont get multiple goes)
2 - you didnt have it as they never sold it and you never had it from them.

So, what do you think you will achieve complaining, for a second time, to a company about PPI when you never had a PPI policy with them?

That is not PPI. It is important to realise that PPI is a specific type of insurance. It covers accident, sickness and unemployment.

The endowment is a life assurance policy and the bolt on is waiver of contribution. Not PPI. WOC and PPI cover different things.
However no one else is following up in this thread so maybe fruitless?

    Very fruitless.

Why would you attempt to "pursue" a company which didn't retail PPI about PPI?

As above, if you have documentary evidence proving you had PPI (not Life Assurance) then you might have a case. Otherwise..

You can hardly complain your Life Assurance was mis-sold, unless you are immortal. ;)
