Hello,

Just a quick question.... Can British gas give the credit agenacys late payment details?

When i moved house bristish gas forgot to mover my exsiting debt to my new property and 12 months later get a bill ....lol....

Anyway i'm paying the bill but by monthly installments as i cant afford to fork out in one go.

But just wanted to know if they can give you bad credit. as i am trying to repair mine best i can

Hi,

Yes, they can. They are allowed to credit search you when you try to switch to any Supplier. They use debt collection agencies like any other. So, they can affect your credit score in the same way as late payments on credit cards/loans can.

If you have access to your credit report e.g. Experian, would be worth checking.

The Supplier has to submit the late payment data so if they didn't for some reason, you may have got away with it.

The fact that you didn't get the bill for 12 months makes me think that they have only just produced one. If thats the case, you should be ok as it's their delay that caused it hence you haven't actualy been late. Is that possible? May be worth checking this with them...

Hi Suzy, I'm in a similiar situation to you. In my case, there was a billing problem and I'm that rubbish with money, I didnt realise that I hadnt being paying for electricity for 2 years!! Anyhoo, I have just done a credit check and it hasnt shown up. Possibly because it was part their fault, part mine?

Ive had my credit report a while ago and ive never seen any utility bad credits on my record.

Maybe they just say this just to scare us?

Also while where on the subject..

I got my credit report from equifax. but can another agency hold other companys details that have suppiled info on you??

Hi Suzy,

Equifax is just one of the companies. Experian/Callcredit are the others.

Remember that if something cannot be removed or will be too costly you could always get a note attached.

I know that Suppliers can do either for you if you request it although you will fight for it as it costs them to do it.
