Should I do HPI/car check before I buy it?

Hello. I am going to buy me second car in UK and just wondering if I should do HPI/car check? And if yes, which one should I choose? The only one good is HPI? But also it's quite expensive and the car I'm going to buy is for 750 pounds. However, if that's the only one reliable and offering some kind of insurance I can pay for it.
Offer says that: all papers and V5 document and keys are included.
My next question is how should I finish this purchase.
1. I'm going to see the car on Saturday - quite far away, by buses and trains (my currently registered, taxed and insured car stays at home in case I decide to buy it).
2. Can I drive it straight away after I buy it on Saturday? Is it possible to insure and tax it straight after I buy it?
3. I wish to move tax and insurance to the new car if that's possible (old one will be SORN until I sell it).
Thank you.

You should always do a HPI check even if its for an old banger. You can get a basic check for around £3.
2) Yes if you've taxed and insured it.
3) You cannot move the tax, only the insurance. The remaining tax will be automatically refunded when you declare SORN.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Thank you.
Would you suggest me website I should use to check the car? What's the most important info I need to get about the car? If it's stolen, finances and written-off? Anything else?

Yes using the new keeper supplement (green slip) reference number, do this before you drive away.0 -
Thank you.
Last thing - please suggest me the website to securely check this car. HPI check is the most expensive - maybe there is something very similar and reliable but under 10 pounds?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. HPI used to be the only one that shows (and covers you against) logbook loans. Which on a car for 750 is much more likely than it having a proper outstanding finance agreement on it.0

You convinced me! I'll go for it.

You can tax the car online before you drive it away using the details on the new keepers slip of the V5C. Phone your insurance company to sort that out.szyblaszczyk wrote: »2. Can I drive it straight away after I buy it on Saturday? Is it possible to insure and tax it straight after I buy it?0 -
Called them and they can do it for me straight away. Only 140 pounds more - expected much more.

Okay, guys - have the report!
As I'm buying a bit damaged car which I feel I can quite easily repair without big costs, I'm wondering if such damage like on the photo could make it "category C"? Or it might be a different damage which was made "in the garage" and insurers weren't informed after that?

All MOT's are fine.
Not damaged used one cost about 1500 pound on Autotrader.
How about insuring cat C car? I put all the details on Bell.co.uk (my current insurer) and they send me back info that I just have to pay additional 140 pounds and that's it.
But do they know that this is written-off and category C or do I have to inform them about it?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Yeah that could make it CAT C. You insure it just the same as you would any other car. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
