Proch Doors

Hello All

I have a porch door on the outside of our proproty that leads into two doors one door for the flat upstairs and the ground floor flat. THe proch door has an handle but for some reason the keylock was filled in by the previous owner. Now i was wondering how easy it it to buy another lock and fit one with a key or would be just be easier to buy new porch door?

Thanks in advance

Yasmin

Is it a timber door? Measure everything you can (or remove the handles, the faceplate and take the lock out) and go to an architectural ironmonger. You might have to do a bit of chopping out for a bigger lock-case, but if it is only a shared porch door and you are considering replacing it anyway then you might consider it worth having a go.

A UPVC door won't be so easy or cheap. Again, measure everything you can and go to the ironmonger or locksmith. Prepare to be disappointed.

The upvc might be easier !

assuming it's a modern euro-style lock, you can just buy replacement barrels.

? That's just the first site I found a pic on btw, not a recommendation.
  • If its a shared front door the door must be able to be opened from the inside at all times without a key for fire regulations. So remember to get a lock that cannot be deadlocked from inside and out. (Just pushing a handle should release it from inside and you should not be able to lock the handle from outside). Sometimes keyholes are blocked off for this reason. If you give more details i might be able to offer more advice or go to a good locksmiths..
