24 Hour Test Drive of new car from dealer - insurance question

If a dealer does not offer this as standard, and you ask, and they agree - Would you expect them to cover the insurance for the period? (I do!)

I've been told it's OK to borrow it - but I would have to pay them £50 to cover insurance, or do it myself and provide them with a cover note.

They have asked for driving license and utility bills for proof of address, which is not an issue - but didn't expect to have to insure it separately.

Any thoughts?

Thanks -

If they don't offer it as standard then yes I would as it is unlikely their insurance covers you for such prolonged test drives and £50 is about what it would cost to get short term insurance for a couple of days.

Even when you end up with a courtesy car after an accident it is not uncommon to have to temporarily cover it on your own policy.

Yes I'd expect them to cover it. I had a 24 and a 48 hour drive from separate dealerships before my last purchase and didn't have to pay anything.

Others either refused or tried to charge, so they didn't get the business.

In the past when I've arranged for a courtesy car, I would call my insurance up and they'd issue me a cover note for free. Surely this is the same?
  • That's great - thank's for input all.
