All this bumping of old threads by asking long departed ungrates to update us just unnecessarily clutters the front page of the forum. A response is unlikely.

The best way to get a response from long departed posters is a pm in the hope that they get alerted to a pm.

Calculated at 2000 cases in the last year. Perhaps part of the reason they don't come back is the assumption that they should be grateful.

I used to spend a lot of my volunteering time completing benefit claims for people. I always asked them to let me know the outcome - it was nice to know but, more importantly whether or not they were successful, it gave me a sense if I was doing them correctly. Very, very few did. In the end, I came to the conclusion that probably most did okay as they didn't come back for help with appeals. Could be, of course, I was so bad that they went elsewhere!

I don't know whether the same is true of a forum. More reporting back would help - I know there is the claim that 99% of those helped here win - but that is a big number unaccounted for.

The claim is from me, and it's always qualified (when I am criticised about it) that 99% of fully-coached cases win or see a discontinuance. I've seen two cases lost in 2017 and four this year.

So I base the calculations on the fully-coached threads where people have got past WS stage with our help, been back enough to get further advice and not just grabbed a defence and ran. They take their chances and even if they win they are not wins 'for' the forum stats, just wins for an individual.
