I have to say that I have abandoned the merry go round of switching bank accounts and opening up numerous current accounts to get higher interest, along with the required funding each month and direct debits. The reason I no longer do this, and I accept it can be very profitable, is simply my OH is not at all interested in this and is completely disorganised so if something happened to me he would not cope with sorting it out. I have therefore rationalised and compromised on 1 joint Santander 123 and 4 Tesco current accounts luckily opened before they stipulated funding requirements and direct debits. The remainder is in a Tesco internet saver and invested in stocks and shares ISAs which I have virtually forced him to get familiar with. Now he gets quite into that and knows how to fund it and get money out and get a valuation.
Sometimes you just have to pick your battles with an OH who is less interested in moving money around to get the best deal.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. I know and I used to have current accounts with Nationwide, TSB, Tesco, Santander, Lloyds, FD and BOS along with a further 5 regular savers. A number of them dropped their interest rates a year or so ago though or reduced the amount you could save/changed conditions re direct debit requirement and I focused on investments which have turned out to be far more profitable so far anyway and they are all on one platform, albeit under different tax wrappers. For some reason OH seems to engage more with this as telling him that Tesco current account produces £7 per month interest on £3k does not get him excited even when I translate it into yearly gains. Thankfully he has got on board with 4 of them producing £28-£30 per month on £12k especially when he can see that is now more than the £20k in Santander 123 .
We have sufficient money to do what we want to so I have given up chasing more for an easier life :rotfl:. Thoroughly respect your decision to continue with it though.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards.
