AO electrician damaged worktop when fitting new hob

I've had a new hob fitted today by AO online and when the fitter had finished he called me in to the kitchen, where I noticed the worktop was damaged in 2 separate places. My old hob was a convection hob with plates and the new one a flat ceramic hob. When I mentioned that the worktop was damaged, the fitter made out that it was under the old hob and that the new one was a smaller width and the damage was now showing. I was a bit flustered but didn't want to argue and accepted his explanation. I signed his handheld device, not really knowing what for, but presumably to acknowledge the job had been done. After he had left, my dad came down to look at it and said straight away that they had caused the damage when removing the old hob as the damage extended past where the old one was, after all they were the same width, I made sure of that when I ordered. I am now left with a broken worktop which they have tried to glue back in place and fitted the new hob over the top. I have contacted the complaints department and am awaiting contact back tomorrow, but I just wondered where I stand with the fact that I signed and let them leave despite being aware of the damage? I'm a woman living on my own so at the time I was a bit frightened to take it any further then. Are AO liable to sort the damage?

Comments

  • No idea if they are liable or not, BUT I think you have done everything right up to now!

You have contacted the company IMMEDIATELY and raised the issue. You also come across very articulate in your complaint and I have no reason to disbelieve you.

See what their complaints department says. Usually they just want an easy life and will put it right by way of repair or refund etc.

As soon as you get a reply then feel free to post back on here :)
