Moving provider and from prepayment...

Hi, I want to move energy provider for gas and electric, and also make the move from prepayment to direct debit.
What would be the best way to go about it? Have the meters changed with current provider then change provider, or change provider then have the meters changed?
I think if I have the meters changed first they will want to put smart meters in, as I've already had a couple of letters saying my meters are being phased out.
Thanks in advance,
Luke.

Sounds like you are currently supplied by Eon, on a version of their legacy tariff.
If you do a search, you will find more about this. You will receive new new metering of a similar style to that you currently have i.e. non-smart meter, PPM ... unless you request something different, and the supplier agrees.
Then do a seach for my golden rule applicable to those on such a legacy tariff, as despite a change of metering, you will still have a style of legacy metering albeit different to what you have today. (assuming yoi have not reached agreement for a different, universally accepted meter) Don't want you ending up in tears do we?
Good luck!0
