in Credit cards
recently i have bought a few items online paying with either a debit or credit card, when it comes to the processing payments section, another box comes up with either the card issuer or the visa sign in it and it says your card issuer wants you to verify your card details, leaving boxes for you to re input your details, i have not by the way, and at the bottom of the box it has two other boxes to click either to confirm or to confirm later , which i always do. i am just wondering is this new or has my computer been taken over by physhing, i do also have upto adte virus software,

Is this the Verified by Visa option? If so then it is legit.Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

It is the verfied by visa site, and is perfectly okay to use. You are going to start seeing it more and more often, I would imagine there will come a day when you dont have the option to register later, you will be forced in to doing it to save the bank money lost through card fraud. James0

Why is the 'Verified by Visa' popup coming up for some people and not for others?
I assumed that, when it came in, it would be introduced for all simultaneously; does it depend on the merchant, the Visa card, the cardolder, or what?0 -
Must be individually. Co-op Bank are introducing it in 2008.Ethical moneysaver0

I've seen this occassionally. It's a right pain. Another password to forget/write down/set the same as others thereby undermining its effectiveness. If Visa isn't happy with these site's security they shouldn't allow them to use Visa.0

I thought the Verified process was to ensure that the actual cardholder is making the transaction.
The idea is that the cardholder registers with Verified and provides a password. That is needed to complete the transaction. If someone had "borrowed" your card, they could use it online, but they couldn't verify the password - unless you gave it to them or left it with the card.

Tesco's are using this now if I use my visa debit rather than visa credit card. Ok, its another password to remember but I do think its a good idea. The transaction will not proceed if the password isn't given so more protection for the cardholder.
Only seen it on a couple of sites so far and it only appears when I use my debit card, more sites I presume have it but I tend to use my credit card online unless its a retailer i've used many times and trust.0 -

Saw this for the first time myself today using a Natwest card (to pay for a bet on the two internationals today via Quidco!) and didn't know what to do. Went to use another site where I can pay using Paypal. That's clarified that then!Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0
