Meridian, even my father well eat it. He doesn't like added things in peanut butter and so always avoided it. Since I introduced him to this though he was happy.
I have a blendtec with a twister 'jug' perfect for nut butters when I find cheap nuts.I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy0 -
Cross-posted, I don't often go to Aldi but could you tell me the ingredients of the whole nut PB?
Thanks
Hi,its 96% peanuts,vegetable oil( peanut oil,palm oil) & sea salt.
Hope that helps.:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0 -
Morrison's do a 100% nut peanut butter - available in crunchy and smooth, I like it. I think Pip and Nut is my favourite, but Morrison's is very good too. I think Whole Earth uses sustainable palm oil, but I prefer to avoid it completely. Meridian is also very good.
I remember last November on black friday Holland and Barrett did promotional deals on Pip and Nut. I think I got a 1kg tub for about £2 (it was half price and I had a voucher)Debt Free Stage 1 - Completed 27/08/2020

Tesco have a new peanut butter product, own brand and made with 100% peanuts and nothing added.
I have tried it and it's very nice :-)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Well, I tried the Pip and Nut. Tastes very nice but quite runny (despite plenty of stirring), spreadable on toast but I think too runny for this purpose for me. Have used it in a few things including Nigella's Sesame Peanut Noodles which I'd recommend!
Will try Meridian next and hopefully it will be a bit stiffer.
p.s. may also try Morrisons brand and Tesco in future.
Thanks.0 -
Meridian is quite 'stiff' yes. You do need to stir it quite a bit. Perfectly normal for a 100% nut butter, it can be quite a work out in colder weather.I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy0

Thanks for replies.
IslandMaid - I have tried to make it in the distant past as you suggest but it always came out dry, suppose the quality of nuts is a big factor.
Whole Earth - I am avoiding this, as it has palm oil in it.
I have never tried Pip and Nut but perhaps will give it a try (it has a little salt but nothing else, which is fine) and also the Meridian.
Regarding the crunchy version of Meridian is it dryish?
Pip&Nut and Meridian and both easy to buy locally and will look out for a sale.
Thanks
I hadn't realised that WE had palm oil in it! I have been using it for years, and not looked at ingredients (we now use about 2 jars a year). I went on their website, and see that they use 'sustainable palm oil' which sounds like a Good Thing, but I don't know enough about it to be sure.Any information gratefully received!0 -
jackyann, there is a lot on the internet regarding health concerns and environmental concerns, here is a Guardian selection of articles for example
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/palm-oil so you can make your own mind up.
I avoid it whether claimed to be 'sustainable' or not. With things like peanut butter why eat the added carp whatever it is when it's not necessary and purer forms are available? Anyway that's my approach.

Thanks Ilona, I have looked up a few recipies online, seems simple enough so may have another go. I don't use lots so making small batches from scratch might be good if I can get a good end product.
Do you use roasted peanuts (with shells on) or buy 'raw' and roast your own before whizzing?
