Advice needed before buying laptop/tablet

  • I was talking to someone in work that's into gaming computers and they said if I buy a laptop get one with an amd processor and don't buy one with a dual core processor as dual core is outdated. Then someone else said get a chrome book as it's what they use but I would be worried about the lack of storage.

I'm quite a big AMD fan - over the decades, AMD has never quite been as good as Intel BUT they were cheaper, and there have been a number of times when for the same money, the AMD option was at least as good as the Intel one.

In current laptops however, this is not currently true. AMD laptops right now are poor options. Their saving grace is that their APU graphics are vastly better than Intels. But unless you need a really cheap gaming laptop, and you really know what you're buying, then I just couldn't recommend one.
(the next Gen Ryzen+Vega APU laptops may completely change all this though, they look like they could be mega - but not out for another 1-2 months)

I agree that 2 threads (not strictly cores as a core can run 2 threads) is not enough. 4 is a minimum for me these days.

Chrome books are getting a little traction, but I'm not personally a fan - they may suit some people though, so I'm not rubbishing them.
