Strip door paint vs replace with new doors

Hi,
I have moved recently to an old house that requires lots of work.
I was planning to replace all doors as they have a tremendous amount of paint, they don't close and need new weird locks that I have never seen before.

But I have had a friend over and he said these are rare Edwardian doors and advised to restore them as they have got character.
They are 1 over 3 panels doors.
As we might want to sell the house in the future so I'd like to know what people think of these kind of doors.
Anyone has advise will be highly appreciated.
Thank you.

Do what you want, nobody is going to buy or not buy your house because of a few doors.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

Are these interior doors you are referring to? If so, I would get them dipped and rehung. Your friend is right, they are very hard to get hold of and will look absolutely gorgeous once restored. You will get nothing of the same character and quality if you were to buy new.

    I would keep the doors
  • We had our Edwardian doors (house built in 1907) dipped and stripped about 5 years ago. It cost £120 for 5 doors and they look fantastic

Get them dipped, I took an old door to a dipper & paid £15, looked incredible!

  • Another vote for get ‘em dipped and keep them.

If you are going to get rid then see how much an architectural salvage yard will give you for them.

I agree with getting them dipped and finished. You just rehang afterwards. Old solid doors, are worth more than new doors, now.

Today, it's very hard to find quality doors cheaply, that are not veneered.
