Recommend me a car.....

Some time in the new year we are going to be looking at a new car for the Mrs.

Needs to be petrol, auto, 5 doors, no bigger than golf/ focus size.

Budget is flexible, I would be happy to spend 5k to 10k depending on the car.

So far she likes the Smart For four, Toyota Auris, Skoda Yeti.

Going to go and have a sit in a few and test drive any she likes but anyone with any other suggestions please throw a few in!

As auto is a requirement I’d avoid anything with an automated manual, this includes VW group cars, smart.

The VW DSG is a gamble out of warranty, the smart forfour uses a new dual clutch unit which is yet unproven.

forfour is also much smaller than the others and only has four seats.

Toyota Auris, Honda Jazz, Hyundai and Kia would be on my list.

Focus may have a powershift gearbox. Definately one to be avoided.

Toyota Auris... would be on my list.

Except a 5-10k Auris petrol automatic will have a MMT gearbox - an automated manual. I've driven two - the first was terrible, the second merely bad.
