O/S Daily Wednesday 8th November 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark, drying up underfoot after yesterday's rain, hoping for a drier day today. It was so miserable yesterday afternoon it was getting quite dark by 4pm.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Dinner last night was disjointed, DH did just have a ready burger thing (don't like those type of things at all, but it's a matter of getting him to eat "something" and last night that was it). The boys had sausages, LO mash, LO veg, LO yorkshires, peas and gravy. I had LO veggie curry and sausages - but it has used up LO's from the fridge without needing to throw food away. Tonight I'm not sure, we'll see later.

Yesterday work was at times manic but had a few really complicated queries but we got there in the end. I'm working all day again today doing the extra hours this afternoon, then on days' off although I'm working Saturday morning.

Keep safe and well x

Cold, frosty and foggy out, the drive to work will be interesting! It'll probably be freezing in our office too so I'll wrap up warm.

Had the flu jab yesterday, so far I just have a sore arm and I woke up every time I turned over so not a great sleep.

A few of us at work are going to see a colleague in an am-dram production tonight. It's quite a long way to go so will be a late night.

Hope everyone is ok, take care. XX

    Morning all.

I’m enjoying the last few moments under my duvet before facing the day. The trip down to Glasgow and back went fine, wet here in Argyll but it soon turned dry. I sat in the wee cafe in the hospital waiting for my passenger and reading a book. She wasn’t very long. Traffic was heavier than usual both ways as the A82 is closed from Tarbet to Crianlarich for a week so everything diverted up the A83 instead. The only bad bit was the eight miles from town to my house along the canal and sea which had thick fog.

Teaching first thing then a fire service officer is coming out again to check my smoke alarms. They began beeping recently.

I’ve decided to pull out of the Monday teaching sessions, can’t do it anymore. We’ll have to rearrange them.

Thinking of those having a rough time.

    Happy Wednesday to everyone.
  • Morning!
Cold here but am wrapped up in velvety dressing gown so am not shivering.
I have a late start and don't need to leave until 8, so m just about to have a shower and get ready, though that doesn't take me long. I do have to dry my hair, am thinking of getting some chopped off. I hate going to the hairdressers, so my usual thing is to wait until it really is beyond a joke. I reckon that if I can tuck my hair into my pants, it wants cutting. It grows like fury too.

I need to put some washing on before I leave, it us meant to be a sunny day so it can dry on the line, or part dry at least.

I went to bed at 9 last night, planning to read but after I read the same paragraph 3 times, I put the light out. Slept until 4. 30, not at all bad for me.

Hope everyone has a good day

Very chilly here this morning, I woke up cold during the night but the covers had slipped off so soon snuggled back in.

Off to work today but its very quiet atm. Dinner tonight is something with chicken, I might do a chicken and chorizo bake which is nice and easy and you can just shove in the oven once it all chopped up.

Must do a wash too which will have to be put through the td for a while to get rid of the worst of the damp, then it can go on the airer.

Right better get on have good days all xx

    Morning everyone

Thanks for starting us off nmlc.

Dumpling I’m glad that Becky had a good first night. I can’t imagine how you are feeling, it must be so difficult for you all. I hope that you get to see Becky soon.

I’m going to do a bit of shopping this morning. I want to go and have a look at a new cake shop that has opened in town while I’m out. They are supposed to have some unusual flavours and I’m hoping that if I get some ideas it may give me my cake baking mojo back. At least baking a cake would give me something to do that doesn’t need too much concentration. I’m finding that I can’t concentrate on tv or long enough to read at the moment.

I’m trying to decide whether or not to make some mince pies today for the freezer. The only problem is freezer space. I haven’t been adding to it, but it just never seems to empty.

Right, enough waffling, time for some more tea.

Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

Just waiting for my grandchildren to burst through the door as I am looking after them for an hour or so before they start school. I actually feel quite human today as I had a full 8 hours sleep which hasn't happened for so long I can't remember.

I've made a cup of tea and put the first load of washing on so have been quite productive :). Steve wants beef curry for tea and I will have the leftover stew. The girls can choose what they would like out of those two options. I've just ordered Phoebe a coat and a couple of jumpers for Lilly as it is getting very cold. They should be here tomorrow as I paid a bit extra for next day delivery.

My lovely cmht lady is coming to take me out this morning. I fully intend to bend her ear about what has happened to Becky and my dearest friend is also ringing me later as well so I will have lots of opportunity to talk which is great for me...not so much for them I suspect :rotfl:.

I will be catching up with some telly and knitting later. I have found the complete series of Jonathan Creek on Netflix so I am watching those at the moment. It makes a nice change from my usual fare of reality cop shows and comedies.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
  • Morning all.

Thanks for the thread nmlc, hugs to all those in need.

Another one here still under the duvet. I woke myself up snoring, I could do with more sleep but I'll stay awake so hubby can get some sleep

I wrote my to do list yesterday as hubby keeps reminding me about things, I wish I hadn't made a list,it's pages long.

Time I got a wiggle on, I have lots to do.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Thank you rr for mentioning chicken which reminded me to liberate some for our dinner before I leave the house this morning. I take my cousin and a friend to a slimming club after I've dropped the HT off at school and then I go for coffee at my cousin's house so don't usually get back home until lunch time. Not a problem when whatever we're having for our evening meal is in the fridge but annoying when the objects are still languishing in the freezer.

I thought it hadn't been that cold here - I feel the cold a lot anyway but the HT was alright so I assumed I was chilly yesterday evening because of my bad circulation but there's ice on the bin lids this morning (just been to put the wheelie bin out). I need to go and catch the cat next - she has a sticky eye so there are eye drops which need to be done.....she's not keen but she does let me do them. I'm happy it's the good natured cat and not the sabre toothed garden tiger that is her sister.

    Take care all of you.
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. A very chilly but bright start here with sunshine forecast all day. Much better than the gloomy day we had yesterday.

What a lovely evening we had at the little Italian restaurant last night for Mr TA's birthday. Lovely food, lovely wine, Italian music playing in the background and the company of the owner once we had eaten! Such a lovely man telling us all about his life between here and Florence. And we relived some of our holidays in Italy before illness grounded us. It was almost like being back in Italy and we will certainly eat there again.

Tonight I am eating out again - it's our old biddies wine and carvery night. It's postponed from last week as one of our number, who left for pastures new in the Spring, is up here visiting family so she is joining us. It will be lovely to see her again.

Meanwhile jobs to be done! We seem to have gone through fridge stuff at a rate of knots this week, so the Thursday shop is being brought forward to today! F & V & dairy stuff especially is needed. Still trying to get the contents of the freezers down so not much needed for them.
But I will need to ransack them for something for Mr TA's dinner tonight when I desert him.

Have a good day all if you can and ((HUGS)) for all wanting/needing them. Thinking of DUMPLING as always with the worry of Becky hanging over her. JACKIE too I am glad Frank is pain free and peaceful. Take care all xx
