I'm currently planning jobs for the weekend as the weather is going to be fine and there won't be many fine days left I imagine. I'm going to attempt to get the ground floor hardwood windows painted along with the front door. Round the back are uPVC and although they are an ugly dark mahogany, they are not urgent in terms of maintenance so it doesn't matter if they don't get sorted 'til spring. I also need to order a different paint for those so I couldn't paint them yet even if I wanted to! I have ordered a new knocker for the front door and that arrived yesterday so I have no excuse not to crack on this weekend. I also need to do some cutting back in the garden and rake up some leaves, we are surrounded by huge trees and I think leaf collecting is going to feature heavily in our outside jobs over the next few weeks! We have a good covering already and Autumn is barely here.
I have just ordered a load of logs so I will also need to clear the log store. Despite having an endless supply of free wood, we buy in a few logs as one of the woodburners eats the small pieces that DH brings home and goes out constantly if we don't watch it like a hawk, however, it will happily burn a couple of logs for hours as it is so efficient. A tonne bag of hardwood logs is £60 and will last us a good few weeks.New Mortgage: £240 999 7/2/20 £ 205 000 Aug 23 Currently: £193 313 Jan 2025

I followed your excellent example and watch Bake Off on catch-up last night - it's not normally a must-watch for me (shocking to admit, I know), but I think this year it might be the comfort-watching I need.Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Evening All.
We have had a lovely weekend, the weather has helped things along but it has been fab. Friday DH and I did a little shopping for a winter coat for him at an out of town large outlet followed by a very nice pizza lunch at a restaurant attached to the outlet. It was a bit strange wearing a mask in the restaurant but fine once we sat down and removed it, all very spaced out and felt very safe so lovely. He found a heavily reduced coat whilst shopping which was down from £200 to £80 and should last a few years so very happy with that.
Yesterday we had a lovely walk around the Tolkien Trail, through the grounds of Stonyhurst College which is beautiful. It is in the same village as our wedding reception venue so happy memories and a beautiful walk by the river, followed by another meal out (not very MSE!) at a fab local pub. Scallops followed by venison, very indulgent but DH has had a record month at work and we were celebrating. Gorgeous it was too!
Finally a busy day at home today. I have cleared most of the large border of dying-back plants, trimmed the irises in the pond down so I can put the mesh cover over to stop all the leaves falling in, planted over 150 bulbs (tulips and daffs), moved a large rambling rose from next to the drive (very in the way) to along the back fence and sanded and first coated the front door. Oh and I cleared out the log store and moved the tonne of logs that were delivered yesterday into there (by hand and on my own). My back is feeling it now! I've also emptied all laundry baskets and the washing is dry and folded, just a few bits of uniform to iron whilst DS is in the bath and I'm done for the day. Glass of wine time I think.
Hope everyone else has made the most of the beautiful autumn weather this weekend.xx

Totally get the making hay whilst sun shines - it's the hardest bit about being self-employed, not knowing how long the sun will last! And doubly hard for you, with you both being self-employed.
The house/garden improvements sound lovely btw - you sound so happy, contented and settled in your new home!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days
