Can't find MPAN / Serial

I've just moved in to a new house, and so obviously don't have an old bills lying around.

I tried to sign up to Bulb as they seem to be the cheapest going right now. However on their system my address did not seem to exist when I entered my postcode (house numbers 1(mine) and 4 are missing but 2,3 and 5 are all there). I've been redirecting all my mail and this has been the first time this has happened, so I'm quite certain I have the correct postcode.

After sending them what were possibly serial numbers of the meter they have come back to say they can't find me. I phoned the Meter Point Administration Service for my area (Central Scotland - SP Energy Networks) and they are also confused and cannot find me on their system (also couldn't find number 4) so I'm at a loss as to where to turn. If the people responsible for getting electricity to my meter can't find it what chance have I got?!

I believe the previous owner used Scottish Power for their electricity, but I doubt if I phoned them they'd give me any info.

Any ideas where I can turn next?

Cheers.

You cannot just switch as you are on a legally binding contract ( a Deemed Contract) with the existing supplier - Scottish Power. You need to contact them with meter readings and then you are free to switch. They will have the information that you need.

You are free to choose but in the meantime before a switch the original supplier continues and you will owe them the costs of supply.

Therefore they will help you as you are their customer :)
  • It may be the post code on the databases are not correct, especially if its a new development. Might be worth checking with develop to see if the registered meters under a different Post Code?
  • Thanks All,

The building has been here since about 1900, but it appears that the meter is registered to the same street name / number in a different city.

Will probably try and get this sorted at a later date, but for now I'll just use this to get signed up.

    Thanks for all the help!

"Different city"? What exactly do you mean? If indeed true, I would want that sorted first. It just does not seem credible. How do you know that the address in the other city is not for real? And presumably their gas meter? How was the meter read over all these years?

Your existing supplier will need to request any required corrections to the meter database.

Don't dig the hole deeper until you have this sorted.
