As you have discovered not paying something on a point of principle often has repercussions. You should have grudgingly paid then fight for compensation through the correct channels. If the fee was stated in the t and c's then not sure you have a valid reason to now challenge.
I agree here....with such a small sums of money I would have paid it and then gone after Vodafone for the money back.

Advantis Credit may have gone back to vodafone for clarification or maybe as your refusal to pay may have put it on the back burner for the next campaign. It is still a debt you are liable, and you simply refusing to pay for it out of principle won't make it go away or mean its unenforceable.
You don't say why you think they were in breach of contract, but its a service agreement, so if you don't or can't use the service it doesn't mean the contract is any less valid.
As to whether it will affect your remortgage - if the default is showing then yes it will. If the default isn't on there maybe vodafone took it off when selling and Advantis Credit will put one on.0
