Damage to courtesy car

I received delivery of a courtesy car provided by my insurers while my car is being repaired for non fault damage. Only 45 minutes after receiving the car my mother's next door neighbour clipped the driver's side door mirror, breaking a chunk off the plastic surround. The woman has mental health issues & was going to just park up & ignore what she'd done until I confronted her, after making various excuses as to why it wasn't her fault she did eventually apologise & agree to pay for the damage. My question is should I report this damage straightaway or wait until my car is repaired and I return the hire car? I have a £250 excess on the insurance for the car. I really don't know how to proceed with this issue and would be grateful for any advice

Call the hire company and ask them?

I would get it fixed and say nothing. Having two claims recorded in as short space of time isn't great. You don't know if the hire company will record it as a claim.

Buy a new one and fit it yourself. They’re usually just held on by 2 or 3 bolts. Assuming any coloured bit isn’t broken you should be able to transfer it over. Unlikely to get anywhere near the 250 excess.
