British Gas Homecare 4 contract renewal

My Homecare 4 contract ends shortly. I was paying £45.00 per month until I reviewed it 3 months ago and they reduced it to £32.00. The renewal price offered was £49.32 per month! After a phone call, this reduced to £41.92, still a long way from £32.00. If I am a new customer, BG will charge £32.00 per month for the first year. They would not offer me anything better than the £41.92. I can get the same/very similar cover with other companies for £32.00 or lower as a 1st year offer. So, I have options to keep the cost the same as the last 3 months, if I cancel with BG.
However, can anyone tell me if there is anything stopping anyone letting the current contract run out on the last day, wait 24 hours, then reapply as a new customer?
Does anyone have any views/experience of this?
Cheers, Lordfatfingers

Depends what BG definition of a new customer is. Some companies will only consider a customer "new" if you have not traded with them in the previous year.

I think you will find their system will know you are a old, new customer. I think they have a cooling period. Ask what that is.
  • Just found this!!

    Introductory offers
If you cancel a product, then buy a product
with equivalent features from British Gas:
    • More than once in three years
    • Or, within three months
then you won’t be eligible for any
promotional offers or new customer prices.

But could this be circumnavigated by purchasing through one's partner??

Yep, 3 months was what I thought.............you could cancel. Sit tight for 3 months. Hope nothing goes wrong and then start again.

I think you will find the address will trigger it.

Why do you want to stick with BG if you feel they are ripping you off? If you know a local good plumber you are likely to be better off in the medium to long term.

Self insure just put the money in a savings account then and if there are probe you have the savings

How many times have you claimed since having.?

We do £70 a month that should cover all white goods tv boiler and in 3 years enough to paint the outside of house and still have enough to cover even the most ex pensive replacement item
