Right then ... today being the 5th working day since my online application, TSB were able to tell me when I phoned their account application chaser-uppers on 0345 8357509 that my online application is "stuck in the system". The workround is for me to go into the nearest branch on Monday and apply in person, it already being noted on their system that they treat this as an online application as far as the £130 switch incentive is concerned. They were apologetic enough, so it's fine with me - assuming things go according to plan from now on.

One thing I did learn today - they currently have "issues" with online applications made via Google Chrome, so if that's your usual browser, you'll need to use an alternative such as Firefox.

Did the account get opened automatically at the end of the application or did it say they were processing it?

Think it said it was approved and welcome to TSB...email pinged later that day welcome and heres your bank details.

Seemed odd to have sort code and account number emailed same day..all up and running including Internet banking.

Well, we called in at the nearest TSB branch and got everything sorted out. It took an hour and a quarter, but at least they provided a drinkable cup of coffee.

They are definitely having problems at the moment with some online applications for Classic Plus accounts.

  • Thank you for this! I recently applied for a TSB classic plus switch (through MSE, cookies enabled) and have heard nothing.

Obviously I’m disappointed to hear that they’ve had problems and that you had to go in person, but In pleased to hear that they rectified things after a visit. I’ll pop into my local branch tomorrow to do the same. If they tell me any nonsense about cookies or lost data I’ll promptly close the account- should get their attention!
