Have you looked at how much the travel insurance would be for her?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

How about a short break to Germany, Austria,Prague,Germany or Switzerland to visit one of their Christmas Markets.
Or the sound of music tour http://www.official-soundofmusic-tour.com/Home.html?gclid=CIyA5_TXjo8CFQdhMAodOTFeVw next summer. I am presuming that your nan is in good health and has no prob's walking about.
If mobility is a problem you could always have a weekend in London and book her a show0 -
As Richardw suggests, do please look at the travel insurance issue. Many, many people in your nan's age group are on (multiple) medication, seeing doctors about one-off and on-going health issues, awaiting hospital investgations, etc. If you book a trip you need to get travel insurance for her (no matter how short the trip) and you will need declare all medical conditions and medications or any event arising from something she may be suffering from that wasn't declared will void the insurance. I fear you may not be able to "surprise" her with this trip unless you already know everything about her medical health.
My mother is 83 years old and is on medication for various things (underactive thyroid, water tablets, low dose asprin , something for angina, something for bloating, etc). She has also undergone numerous hospital investigations this year, too numerous to mention. My in-laws, in the same age group, are also on multiple medications with quite a few conditions/GP and hospital visits this year.
It's a lovely thought to give your nan this trip and I'm sure she will be thrilled. I don't want to pour cold water on your idea, but please do consider it - if your nan was taken ill abroad she could get treatment with the EHIC but it wouldn't pay for transportation home if it was needed.0
