I've registered on there but havent quite gotten round to filling in all the info. We have decided to go two fold into business. Circumstances are changing rapidly in our family (too long a story) but needless to say, that DH won't be in the forces for much longer, and we need to have an income pretty darned quick!
Hoping to start two businesses, but keeping mum about the ideas just now, want to research them more fully first!
Hope everyone is keeping well, havent posted for a while, lots been going on here.LBM - August 2008 - Debts then - £33390 - 2nd LBM - November 2009 - Debts then - £18500:mad:

Hi all
I've just come across this thread and ive tried to read through from the start. I'm so impressed with all your wonderful ideas. I'd love to have a go at some of the things you've mentioned. I'm just teaching myself to knit and i think i might be able to do something with that. Any ideas? I'm not sure how fashionable knitted things are these days. Id be grateful if anyone has any ideas or tips on getting started. Im on a VERY low budget so if anyone has any links to online patterns or information that would be great aswell.
Thanks guys. I hope to be around on this thread for a while! What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0 -
Hi, Picklepick,
Just google free knitting patterns and you'll find loads.0 -
Hi picklepick, I've seen some really cheap balls of wool in charity shops, which is where I'm hoping to get some to make pompoms. (I need to test out my fabulous new homemade pompom maker - STILL haven't done it, as I sold the last on in the charity auctions
) You can also pick up really cheap handknits if you have the patience to unravel them. Cheap parcel string (not the nylon stuff) is handy practice for loose knitting into washing cloths.
All of this has reminded me of another thing we used to do (years ago) - we used to collect the discarded coloured baler twine off hay & straw bales and then weave them into hay nets for the horses. Beats throwing the stuff out when the farmers or livery yards are done with the hay/straw.
OH! Thought of something else - Google something like 'knitting plastic bags'. There are loads of articles about how to cut them for weaving and knitting into recycled mats, hats and other such saleable items.I reserve the right not to spend.

Picklepick - I've never tried the bag weaving so can't claim any prior knowledge, plus I never seem to have any plastic bags other than the occasional ones that get used as bin bags and most seem to be bio-degradeable. Best check and not knit a plastic bag jumper that could prove more bio-degrading than bio-degradeable at a most inappropriate moment some years down the line. :rotfl:I reserve the right not to spend.

My advice, picklepick, is before you get too involved you need to think about how you are going to sell and market the items you produce.0
