Car insurance voided, I fraudulently purchased car insurance policies in mums name.

Right, where to start.

A few years ago I was broke, I had a car but no money to really run it legitimately. So to get around this I would take out insurance with my mother as the policyholder and with myself as first driver. Now my mother knew nothing about the policy I had taken out as I used my own bank card and account, then I'd use a different address completely for a lower premium. Now I know how irresponsible/ illegal and downright wrong this was. I was dependent on drugs at the time and in a considerably different situation than the one I find myself in today.

When my money ran out and I couldn't keep up with payments the policy was cancelled, I actually forget about how many times I repeated this to obtain cheaper insurance. I never made any claims on any of the policies I took out. My mum had zero knowledge about any of these policies either.

So years passed and after a stint in prison, I began to rebuild my life. I started my own business, I moved into my first home and things are going well.

Now, fast forward to a few months ago when my mothers car was stolen. My mother had her own legitimate policy for years and new nothing about any of the policies I had taken out in her name. The insurance policy she had has been voided because of previous cancelled policies in her name but not her address and with no payments coming from her bank account or card.

Now I am the villain here, she is a innocent old lady who new nothing about any of this deceitful business I was carrying on with back then. I have no problem holding my hands up to any relevant authorities or insurance companies. I just need to know how I can go about sorting this mess out, she's thousands of pounds out of pocket and its all down to me its no fault of her own.

Any help or advice regardless of how much its deserved will be gratefully appreciated. I was young, naive and never read any terms and conditions or worried about any consequences.

Thanks

Your mum needs to report you to the police for fraud. She will get a crime number, your record will be a bit longer and hopefully your mum can resolve this. I wish you all the best getting this sorted and I hope your business continues to thrive. Good luck! Jim.

You should pay your MUM for her lost car and her insurance from here on. She will have to disclose for evermore she had a policy cancelled

Exactly what I was going to suggest.

Kudos for being prepared to take responsibility. I wish you all the best for the future.

I can't think of an alternative to the two avenues already suggested, alas.

There must be a way around it surely.
An innocent person who is the victim of fraud should not be punished for life

the op also risks being put on the insurance fraud register If they admit, so there are no winners in this. Even if they own up, his mother may well retain the cancelled insurance state and have to declare forever. Karma always comes back to bite

The first step is for her to raise a formal written complaint to the insurer.

What did the mother do to deserve increased insurance premiums for life?
