can you pay into Halifax/BoS using a cashpoint?

Options
Simple question really. I always used to pay into my Abbey account using the cashpoint, it takes an extra day to clear but that usually isn't a problem compared with the convenience of not having to go into the branch. I recall reading on my new BoS terms & conditions that I can pay in using a cashpoint - however the cashpoints outside the BoS branch in Trafalgar Square and the Halifax just off Piccadilly don't give you the option. As it turns out that halifax opens at 8.30 and is empty at that time so I can pay in on my way to work - but, in practice, do any HBoS cashpoints offer this option? All the Abbey ones that are actually outside a bank do, it's the first thing I've encountered where the BoS service appears worse than the Abbey. Although Abbey certainly don't open at 8.30, even in central London.

The Halifax ones I have seen outside their branches do accept cash (notes)/cheque deposits.

Yep, most of the HBoS do offer cashpoints, unless it is a small branch, eg. catered for students in the uni or an area with small population.

I am surprised you went for BoS, which is rather unpopular in England.

many do - BUT they do take about 3 days to clear

within many branches there are immediate deposit machines and if the branches have these they mostly stop their atm's from taking cash

That explains it - there is a deposit machine in the branch. However it's not quite so convenient for BoS customers as you need to have filled in a BoS deposit slip - at 8.30 am it's easier to give the cash/cheque to the cashier with your debit card.

At the time it was Martin's Best Buy for transferring your current account, and I don't think Halifax was offering the £100 incentive. In any case, I'd been with Abbey for years which has always offered "no branch" banking and to be honest I don't see any need for a traditional branch, they're more trouble than they're worth as it can sometimes mean that staff at other branches can't help you. In any case I do most of my banking on line and there's the halifax for when you do need to visit a branch.

I deposited cash at the Halifax cashpoint yesterday at about 10 minutes after they closed.
Will it credit my account at some stage today when they get around to opening the machine?
