Misleading advertising?

Hi guys, I currently have current and "savings" account with Nationwide and A&L (the A&L savings was opened automatically for me when I opened the current account).
Anyway I have just had an e-mail from A&L saying "we noticed you are using your current account but not your savings account.... blah blah"
The e-mail then went on to say:
"[FONT="]To help your savings grow, your PlusSaver Account comes with a great rate that's exclusive to Premier customers. Currently at 5.25% gross p.a./AER (variable), the rate is guaranteed to be no more than 0.50% below the Bank of England Base Rate until 31 May 2008* - so you know your savings will always be working as hard
as possible."
(The bold red was highlighted by me)
Surely saying that (the highlighted bit) is false advertising, as I easily found that my Nationwide "e-savings" is 5.8%....?

Does seem a bit dodgy, saying "as hard as possible" does seem to imply that they're guaranteeing you'll can't get a better rate anywhere which of course isn't true. Having said that I'm sure A&L's compliance dept will have been over any marketing they send out with a fine tooth comb, so I'd imagine they are allowed to say what they've said.0

Its just "marketing". Therefore, you just have to remember two things:
1. That it took 6 grown men with pigtails a month to come up with the text of the e-mail.
2. The only reason that they all drive BMW's is that none of them can spell "Porsche".The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.

I'd be seriously surprised if you were wrong! Legal never let you say what you want to so imagine what it originally said!Stephen_Leak wrote: »Its just "marketing". Therefore, you just have to remember two things:

LOL well there were no pony tails (I assume that was what you meant?! Never seen a man with pig tails!) in marketing when i was in our marketing department! I did (do) drive a BMW though, but that's mostly because I'm no an over paid IT geek (not that Im bitter... much).0
