Plus one for ex motability cars, we have bought several over the years, currently a Ford Cmax, and all have been good buys.
However avoid low milage diesels as looking at other forums they seem to be troublesome.

If it's going to spend the majority of it's time sat outside your house, why on earth are you wanting to spend £4.5k on a car in the first place? Buy private for under £1k, £50-odd on recovery with homestart, and put the rest into your "socialising" fund :)

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

I plan to keep it for a long time so I want good safety & tech features. My current car has wind up windows and no central locking.

I'll bet it also came with 100,000 miles and you'll be replacing it soon?

That's not always a good thing ... depending on the car it could be a very bad thing.
Why would it be a VERY bad thing to buy a car with 3000 miles on the clock for half price of new.?
I ve had my Vauxhall Corsa ex motobility car now for 7 years with zero faults, no trips to the garage in that time.Bought with 3k miles and 3 years old, now with 42k.
Personally my maxim is to buy a car with as close as possible to rolling off the production line. A car does not know its age, components wear out with use

    I'd rather a 100K car that's been looked after than a 15K three year-old that's been neglected.

My MIL's car which I bought three weeks ago after hers was written off is under 10yo, with under 80K mi, does 70MPG, has five seats and five doors, electric windows, A/C, electric mirrors, power steering, airbags, etc. It has a full service history, a near-enough full MOT and hasn't been crashed.

    It cost £1200.

No, 135k miles and intend on keeping it for several years at least..it does 30 miles daily commute plus all the other running round needed.
