They will have been working on it for a long time - just because they have agreed to proceed it does not necessarily mean it will happen. The competition authorities are likely to have something to say about it and shareholders could object - they may also be forced to sell some stores if they are the two main options in an area (like when M took over Safeway)
As they are planning to keep both A and S running, it may be that they are more clearly differentiated, with A refocused to take on Aldi and Lidl? That said, S customers wouldn't put up with higher prices and many customers are now shopping around rather than being loyal to one store. Plenty of S customers go to Aldi and Lidl too.
Interesting times ahead.

Good morning all, very breezy one here, but it is always windy once the cherry blossom has been out a while. Not raining yet, but don't think I will be going far on my bike today
Garden is looking good though, will soon be pulling our first rhubarb. Strange how it seems to be that bit later than a lot of yours though! What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

JTS :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: can I have a large cone please xThe Home Secretary has resigned .
I am not starting a political discussion, as it is not appropriate on here, but am I the only one getting concerned about how many supposedly private letters (with limited circulation) are getting leaked to the press?

No concerns, I am relieved that they were leaked. She was not honest to Parliament, her civil servants were aware of this (indeed she inferred that they had not made her aware/acted independently). The civil servants were not able to say publicly that she was aware, so they leaked documents to prove this.Obviously she would not have claimed there were no targets unless that is what she had been briefed during her preparation for the select committee.
What she should have resigned over is knowing that the compliant environment policies were affecting British citizens and not putting in safeguards to protect them.
Totally agree.

The weather is nice here but it's so cold! I cycled in to work and my fingers were frozen by the time I got here.
I'd been worried that my rhubarb had died over the winter but over the last couple of weeks it's suddenly made an appearance. It'll be a little while before we pull any though I think.0
