Yes, £3.78 for 16, just under 24p each - as you say, cheaper to just get 12 for a straight 22½p each comparison

Did you look in to switching bank accounts? could have been more lucrative than just downgrading your current account, on some you can switch to the same bank and still get a bonus.

I am still getting 5% interest on the downgraded account on balances up to £2500 - for 12 months so thats something at least.

This is the main joint account so not an account that I would switch anyway
